DCCI hosts Freight Logistics Conference
Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) is hosting the first conference in freight logistics, which is aimed at bringing quality, security and innovation to the fore. Due to its strategic location, Dubai enjoys the status of a trade center and has been a hub of economic activities in the gulf region. Industry analysts in the gulf region believe that the freight logistics must play a key role to deliver world-class services for the business community in Dubai. New challenges from Economic Globalization have forced organizations to adopt more transparency and develop their services.
Another important aspect of the freight logistics is the online services. The online services are based on the concept of e-commerce, which has become the backbone of today’s businesses. It has been stressed that the National Association of Freight Logistics (NAFL) and International Federation of Freight Forwarders’ Associations (FIATA) must work in tandem to adopt best practices in order to develop the freight logistics system. There is no doubt that product and service knowledge plays an important role in making any trade a success.
Performance-Based Logistics
Performance-based logistics is no longer a new phenomenon in material handling. It is a logistics model that defines specific goals and metrics to evaluate success. The term is largely used in the US military. Performance-based logistics in the Department of Defense is referred to the purchase, maintenance and support of a product or weapons system. The contractor oversees the movement of the system and its components to the correct locations and also hires agents who maintain proper coordination between shippers, manufacturers, service technicians, trainers and other companies associated with the weapon system.

The benefit to the contractor is that it gets not only a product contract but also a revenue stream for the life of the product. PBL contracts are still awarded to contractors on an ad hoc basis, rather than consistently, throughout the DOD.
All About Logistics
Logistics is the process of planning, implementing and controlling the efficient flow and storage of raw materials. Maintaining inventory, finished goods and ensuring good services are part of logistics process. Satisfying customers’ requirements is the main objective of logistics. The whole concept of Logistics is based on the following elements:
• Proper Place
• Right Time
• Adequate Quantity
• Complete Adherence to Quality
• Right Price
• Right Condition
• Right Customer
Third party logistics is the activity of outsourcing activities related to logistics and distribution. It includes logistics solution providers and the shippers. Companies prefer third party logistics because of core competence, resource constraints, cost saving, global coverage and efficient management of inventory. There is also a fourth party logistics that assembles and manages the resources, capabilities and technology to deliver a comprehensive supply chain solution to the client.
