How to make your warehouse your pride?

Warehousing is an integral part of material handling business. Good customer service begins at the warehouse. A sloppy, disorganized and dirty warehouse shows that you do not take pride and attachment to your business. To make your warehouse your pride, you need to follow a few steps. Some of them may be listed down as:

Keep your warehouse clean: Cleaning your warehouse on a weekly basis will not only develop pride in your employees, it will also help to keep track of returned goods, damaged goods and special buyouts which often get misplaced.

Special uniforms for warehouse personnel: Make uniforms for the team of people working in the warehouse. This will help you identify the warehouse staff and get rid of unwanted people in the place. You can also give a tag to the personnel identifying their position like “Vault Security Team” or “Vault Management Team” or something similar that signifies the importance of what they do.

Increase the Receiving Area: This is important as most inventory errors start in receiving which lead on to a chain of errors. So, give adequate room to the receiving department and appoint senior people in this section.

Signs and boards to give directions: Colorful clear signs and warehouse maps give proper guidance to new employees and increase productivity immediately.

Double Check Orders: Get your order tight at the first time to avoid additional expense of resending it. In order to get it right the first time, install a method of double-checking using one of your seasoned veterans. This is especially important if you have new people picking orders.

Create Color Coded Labels: In order to make it easier for your delivery staff, develop a custom colored label for each of your most valuable customers. Make sure every package you deliver to that customer has that label. Your drivers will be able to quickly identify those orders. You don’t want to make mistakes on orders to your best customers.

Implement Cycle Counting: This accuracy in your systems. By examining inventory daily, lost goods and mystery items are identified and revealed, items that have been shelved at the wrong place can be corrected.
