Warehouse Management Systems
Automation of the picking process seems to work well for most warehouses and distribution centers. They find that they can keep down the errors while raising the throughput by deploying a Warehouse Management System (WMS), especially with the norm today being more frequent, smaller deliveries. This situation gives rise to randomness and unpredictability which make it difficult for even the most experienced, well-trained picker to react as quickly as an automated system would. Investing in a WMS will help warehouse managers to prioritize orders and send them in the right order into the picking system. A good WMS should be flexible and upgradable so as to fit in with future business processes and advances in technology. The success of a WMS deployment also rests on the operational discipline and controls that are set in place to run the system.
