Kiva Systems Innovative Solution For Split-Case Picking

Kiva Systems is a one of the most innovative material handling supplier, in the industry. Their solution incorporates both material handling and software components in order to drive more efficient split case picking. In split case picking, multiple order lines are involved. Each order line is for a very small quantity. Normally in split case picking, a worker pushes a cart through the warehouse and fills the cart until done. With Kiva Mobile Fulfillment System, the replenishment worker remains at a picking station. He will be typically filling 4-5 totes for separate orders simultaneously. An Automatic Guided Vehicle (AGV) brings the inventory to the worker. This AVG goes to the warehouse, gets under cubical racks that may be four rows high, lifts it off the floor and delivers it back to the workstation. Arcweb.com reports:

When delivered to the worker, the AGV spins the rack to present the proper pick face to the worker, and the correct slot lights up. The worker picks the product and verifies the pick with a bar code.
