No Aisle Storage Designed By Schenker
Unilever’s packaged foods and personal care products, boast of ultra-dense storage systems, across Canada. These systems store pallets 24 positions deep. They do so by using sophisticated mechanical devices. As their operations need no assistance from humans, they do not require aisles. These distribution systems are designed together by Schenker of Canada and its client Uniliver Canada. They have been chosen because of Unilever’s high volume order fulfillment needs. Along with this, they also provide flexibility required by third-party logistics service provider (3PL) like Schenker. They have been created by incorporating miscellaneous innovative material handling technologies. All these technological innovations are new to the North American market. Although they require a substantial amount of investment, Schenker and Unilever, wanted to take their distribution to the next level. Dcvelocity.com reports:
As may have become evident, this is no ordinary third-party partnership. The relationship between the two companies dates back to the early 1990s when Schenker began distributing powered laundry detergent for one of Unilever’s divisions.
