Automatic Over-The-Road Truck Loading System
Recently, Unilever Bestfoods Corp. implemented an automatic truck loading system, in its plant in Chicago. This was done in order to improve overall worker safety by ensuring a reduction in the fork lift traffic. The turn-key system loads about 145 over-the-road trailers, per day, automatically. Apart from this, this project included relocation of five case palletizers, to a warehouse, situated close to the facility’s shipping doors. In order to feed the palletizers, existing case conveyors were relocated. A new pallet handling system, in the mean time, accumulates and meters pallets tot he automatic truck loading system (ALTS), at all 6 loading positions. As a result of this solutions, Unilever has gained several benefits. The first being overall worker safety. Along with this, it led to the deployment of fewer vehicles. All associated maintenance costs have gone down, subsequently. Mmh.com reports:
Unilever-Bestfood’s ATLS runs continuously, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with minimal supervision. Product damage has been reduced. Load accuracy is now 100% because the system automatically scans and confirms the placement of all pallet loads inside the trailers.
